“In my youth, I discovered my Muskogee, Seminole, and Lenape heritage through the commercialized native symbols every American kid grew up with. In this work, I knowingly play with the cliché of the bison's significance to the North American Indian character. Within that, I create a collage of creatures, patterns and forms which evoke my sense of humor. I enjoyed transforming the bison into my gentle, grotesque beast which doubled as a cavern of warmth and comfort. I know a work is successful when I can find a dark glimmer of laughter somewhere within it."—L.F.R.
